"Thrill Me!" Night of the Creeps Blu-ray Review
This is a review of Night of the Creeps: Director's Cut, released on blu-ray by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. It's one of those great horror movies from the 1980s. The story is about an alien experiment that goes awry and crashes into Earth in 1959, infecting a young college student. In 1986, his cryogenically frozen body is thawed out by fraternity pledges. The college campus is then overrun with creeps who turn people into zombies. I like this movie for several reasons. First, it combines genres--including the 1950s alien invasion element, creepy crawly creatures, and zombies. Second, it stars Tom Atkins, who portrays a hard-boiled detective in the style of film noir. Third, there is a special appearance by Dick Miller, the legendary B-movie actor. He portrays a police armorer in the story. The Director's Cut blu-ray includes the ending that director Fred Dekker intended, as well as the theatrical ending as a bonus. You also get several featurettes, one of which focuses on the career of Tom Atkins. If you are a fan of 1980s horror movies, I highly recommend this blu-ray release.
